A quick chat with an ultimate accessories master – a London-based designer of fluffy, pastel-coloured shawls, Charlotte Simone.

Colourful, fun, fluffy, chic, statement!
Do you remember the first thing you’ve ever designed?
The Popsicle was the first scarf I designed and made in the garment district of New York. I was only a student at NYU when I started so wasn’t entirely sure what I was doing but the reaction to my fun and fluffy design was incredible! Celebrities including Olivia Palermo, Alexa Chung, Rita Ora and Kendall Jenner have all worn a Popsicle, it has become a Charlotte Simone signature and is included in every season to date!
Can you tell us a little bit more about your time in Paris? How did the city influence you?
I spent my freshman year of college in Paris. I studied Literature and Art but fell in love with fashion and pastry instead! The women in Paris are beautiful! I was inspired daily by the effortless style of Parisian women and their ability to build an outfit around a single accessory. One day my head turned on the streets of Paris when I saw a beautifully lady all in black wearing a huge statement scarf. It was in that moment that I realized I wanted to reinvent the everyday scarf, an accessory I felt was still left untapped! Seeing a gap in the market I designed the ‘Popsicle’ and the rest is history!
How would you define your aesthetic?
Colour is key! I like to keep my designs simple and easy to wear but always add classic Charlotte Simone colour and textures. You can always spot a Charlotte Simone piece on the street, you can’t miss it!
What is the most exciting part of having an own fashion brand?
Having my designs all come to life! I love collected textures and colours amid seasons and love seeing my vision come to life.
What are the tough parts?
Not just being able to sit and sketch beautiful ideas. The hard part is the everyday nitty-gritty that no one sees on Instagram. When the Wi-Fi breaks, when designs come in wrong, when samples get lost, when deadlines are missed, when you have no sleep! Overall though, I really do love what I do and count myself pretty lucky.
How would you describe a modern fashion industry?
Fast paced and ever so exciting!
What are your must-haves for the upcoming season?
My favourite style this season is the Cuddle Cuff, a new shape for the brand. It can be worn as a collar or can be fastened different ways. It’s two tone and a such easy piece to enhance any outfit. My go to is the lilac and black at the moment as London has been a little grey so like to add a pop of lilac – a main colour theme this season.

What’s your favourite Charlotte Simone piece of all times?
It has to be the Popsicle! It reminds me of happy times in New York when I was a student and had no idea of what was to come!
